ALL WRAPPED UP
Bernadette Robinson from Melann’s
Bernadette, who is an artist extraordinaire, was fascinated by
the Pfaff Embellisher 350P which to her creative mind looked
like a lot of fun with fascinating creative potential.

Having a remnant of boiled wool in her fabric stash which was the perfect size for a fall/spring wrap, Bernadette set her creativity free and designed this stunning wrap. Having two balls of hand knitting yarn that matched perfectly to the boiled wool fabric, the design started to take shape.

Meandering strands of yarn were ‘embellished’ along the length of the boiled wool that extended 12in on both ends of the wrap beyond the cut fabric edges to act as a fringe. This fringe was added to with additional 12in lengths of yard to make a full fringe.

Bernadette, being a ‘wiz’ at the Pfaff Creative 4D Embroidery design
software, used it to combine four scroll designs (lve10), from Laura’s Vintage
Embellishments
design CD by Jenny, in the Grand Dream Hoop on the Pfaff
Creative Vision embroidery/sewing machine. She then embroidered this
combination design in one hooping in the centre back of the wrap.
Again using the design software, Bernadette isolated flowers
and leaves from various design CDs. Great leaves can be
found on Jenny’s design CDs: Beyond the Colour Purple
and suitable flowers on Bella Fiori and Art Nouveau
series Spring Flowers
.
Using the Embroidered Découpage technique
(see page 65) using Dissolve Magic as a stabiliser
and nylon organza in the hoop, Bernadette
stitched a copious number of leaves and flowers,
(more than she thought she would need), in
various shades of purple and green. In doing this
there were plenty of flowers and leaves to ‘play’ with,
when being creative and putting the design together. By
letting the embroidery designs dry naturally, after the stabiliser
had been washed out allowed the designs to curl a little giving a
natural finish to the embroidery.
The Embroidered Découpage flowers and leaves (leaves under the
flowers) were arranged in and around the embroidered scrolls and
along each end of the wrap and pinned in place. So the Embroidered
Découpage
floral embroidery retained its dimension, the leaves were
attached down the centre vein only and the flowers around the centre
using a freehand stitch and Invisa Sheer thread. Finally, Bernadette
added a generous sprinkle of heat-active crystals to complete her
designer fall wrap.

As always Bernadette we are constantly amazed at your creativity.
