EMBROIDERY

Embroidery Option No 1 – using the 24in
square of tan silk dupioni taking advantage
of hoop size 360mm x 350mm.

7 On the 24in square of tan silk dupioni measure out 9in on each side of the centre (on the vertical and horizontal lines) and mark. Draw lines that pass through these marked positions that intersect and are parallel to the marked vertical and horizontal divide lines.

8 Use the 24in square of silk, (for all the embroidery designs), in the following sequence:

Centre embroidery:

Block 101, centred, using the marked divide lines as guides using the 360mm x 350mm hoop with the fabric and stabiliser hooped together.

Side, top and bottom borders embroidery:

Smaller Borders (side borders) and Buttonhole 100a (top and bottom borders) using the 360mm x 200mm hoop (fabric placed over the sticky stabiliser) and the marked border divide lines as placement guides on each side of Block 101 design to centre the designs.

Four, cornerstones embroidery:

Flower Only (aligned with the border designs centred in each corner) using the 180mm x 130mm hoop (fabric placed over the sticky stabiliser).

Embroidery Option No 2 – using the 16in square, four, 6in x 16in border strips and four, 6in cornerstones of tan silk dupioni and taking advantage of the 360mm x 200mm hoop.

9 On the 16in square of silk, on the marked vertical divide line, measure in from the fabric edge 31/2in (on two opposite sides only) and mark. Now mark lines that pass through these points that are parallel to the horizontal divide line.

NOTE: Refer to diagrams No 1 and
No 2 on the pattern sheet and use these
as guides to embroidery file names and
placement, also print placement templates
for all designs using
Template Magic
printable sheets.

10 The embroidery is done in the following sequence using sticky stabiliser in the hoop and placing the fabric over the stabiliser:

Centre 16in square of silk:

− one, Motif 103, centred in the fabric, using the 180mm x 130mm hoop

− two, New Centre (one mirrored) one design centred over the two marked 31/2in lines (on each side of Motif 103) using the 360mm x 200mm hoop.

Side, top and bottom border embroidery on the four, 6in x 16in strips of silk:

− two, centred Smaller Borders (side borders) using 360mm x 200mm hoop

− two, centred Buttonhole 100a (top and bottom borders) using the 360mm x 200mm hoop.

Cornerstone 6in squares of silk:

Flower Only centred over the four cornerstones, using the 180mm x 130mm hoop.

Embroidery Option No 3 – using the 16in
square, four, 6in x 16in border strips, four,
6in cornerstones of tan silk dupioni and
using the 180mm x 130mm hoop only.

11 Use diagrams No 1 and No 2, on the pattern sheet, as a guide to mark embroidery placement positions on all fabric pieces and then use the Template Magic printable sheets to print templates for all the embroidery designs needed for the 180mm x 130mm hoop. Template Magic has an adhesive backing so a printed design can be positioned over the fabric adhering to it and staying in place (as a single or combination design). This makes embroidery placement easy as when positioning the fabric over the stabiliser in the hoop, the design can easily be centred under the needle by aligning the divide lines on the template with corresponding ones on the hoop. The printed template can then be removed for embroidery.

12 The embroidery is done in the following sequence using sticky stabiliser in the hoop placing the fabric over the stabiliser and using printed placement templates:

Centre the combination embroidery on the 16in square of silk:

− one, Motif 103 centred

− four, Flower & Leaves 100 (flipping and mirroring as required) two on each side of Motif 103

− four, Flowers & Leaves 108 (flipping and mirroring as required) one in each corner

− two, Border 103 centred below Flowers & Leaves 100 and between Flowers & Leaves 108 one on each side of the square.

Side border embroidery on two, 6in x 16in strips of silk:

− measure out 31/2in on each side of the centre on the marked horizontal line and then mark vertical lines that go through these marks to embroider:

− two, Smaller Border designs (one mirrored horizontally) for each of the side borders centred over the 31/2in marked positions.

Top and Bottom border embroidery on two, 6in x 16in strips of silk:

− measure out 13/4in on each side of the centre on the marked horizontal line and then again twice more so there are three marks on each side of the centre and then mark vertical lines that pass through the six 13/4in marks

− seven, Buttonhole 100 over the centre and centred over the six marked 13/4in intersecting lines on each of the top and bottom border strips.

Cornerstone, four 6in squares of silk:

Flower Only, one centred in each 6in square of silk.

DECORATIVE STITCHING 13 On the embroidered buttonholes strips (top and bottom borders), measure out and mark 1in on each side of the centre horizontal marked divide line. Mark lines that pass through these points and are parallel to the horizontal centre divide line.
