Simon and Harvey – a picture is better than a
1,000 words when it comes to a father’s love!

23 Position then pin the bunny tails, flower centres, leaves and the butterflies on the cot cover and pillow sham using the photo as a guide to placement. Stitch all the embroidery designs in place using the Invisa sheer thread, a freehand foot and straight stitch that follows the outside edge of each design.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER

24 Join the frill strips together lengthwise (4in x 320in strip of lime green gingham to 43/4in x 320in strip of plain olive green fabric for the cot cover and 3in x 120in lime green gingham to 3 /4in x 120in strip of

plain olive green fabric for the pillow sham).

25 Press the frill strips with wrong sides of fabric together and raw fabric edges aligned and then join the short sides together to form a circle.

26 Gather up the 320in long frill to fit the cot cover and the 120in long frill for the pillow sham using the open-toe foot and a 6mm straight stitch. Attach frills to the outside edge of both cot cover and pillow sham with the right sides of the lime green gingham together and raw fabric

edges aligned using the 1/4in patchwork/ quilting foot.

27 Press the frill on the cot cover to the right side with the raw fabric edges to the back of the cover and then top stitch around the outside edge on the front of the cot cover using needle positions and the open-toe foot, close to the edge of the quilt. This will secure the raw fabric edges of the cot cover and frill to the back of the cover.

28 Use the washable fabric glue to attach the olive green 1/2in flat braid to the back outside edge of the cot cover so it covers the raw fabric edges of the cover and frill.

29 Use the two, 12in lime green gingham fabric squares to make up the pillow sham in your preferred way (Robbie hemmed and overlapped the back of ours).

For all who requested that Jenny design a cot cover and pillow set, here it is and we trust you will enjoy making it for your beloved grand babies as much as Robbie and Jenny did. Turn to page 32 for the directions to make a fascinating butterfly mobile to hang above the cot or in the window to catch the sun.
