pREpARATIoN

1 Use the tracing paper and lead pencil to trace the handbag pattern from the pattern sheet and then use paper scissors to cut it out.

2 Use the fabric-marking pen to trace around the handbag pattern and then cut it out.

3 Use the organza and Dissolve Magic, hooped together, embroidery foot and either Magenta or Latte thread in the needle and bobbin to embroider four gi04, two gi02, (pink bag) two gi16, five gi15 (gold bag) flowers. Refer to page 65 for Jenny’s Embroidered Découpage technique and either CE 22 Peaches and Green quilt or Jenny’s Heritage for detailed directions on using the Magic Stencil Burner and putting the flowers together.

ThREE-DIMENSIoNAL EMBRoIDERED DÉCoUpAGE FLoWERS 4 Layer two embroidered organza flowers together sandwiching two circles (the size of the flower centres) between and under the flower centres. Use Invisa and a freehand straight stitch to sew the flowers together around the centre and then embellish the flower centres with crystals using the Magic Crystal Wand.

5 Make up three sets of flowers for each handbag. Loop up the gold organza ribbon and using the photo as a guide, glue the ribbon loops behind the flowers.

MAKING Up ThE hANDBAG 6 Fold the handbag pattern in half, right sides of fabric together.

7 Use the construction thread in the needle and bobbin and the 1/4in patchwork foot to sew the sides seams. Align the side seam to the bottom of the bag, centred so there is 1in on each of the seams and sew across the corners of the handbag.

8 Turn the handbag to the right side and then turn under a 1/4in seam (to the inside of the fabric) across the opening at the top.

9 Handle: Turn under a scant 1/4in seam on each side of the 10in x 11/2in matching cotton fabric and then fold the fabric in half, sandwiching the 91/2in x 1/2in boning between the wrong sides of the fabric so it is centred with a 1/4in of fabric on each end for attaching to the handbag.

10 From the right side the fabric, stitch the boning in place by top stitching close to the edge of the fabric down both sides of the boning (this also seams the open side of the fabric).

11 pin the handle on each side of the inside of the handbag so the raw fabric edges of the /4in folded hem of the

1 handbag and handle align and are parallel. Stitch the handle in place making sure you stitch through the boning.

12 Fill the handbag with the two cups of rice or kitty litter, topping it up so the bag is well padded out with the polyester fibre fill. Top stitch the opening closed from the right side of the fabric.

13 Use the photo as a guide to glue the Three-dimensional Embroidered Découpage flowers to the top of the handbag.

We know you will just love making, using them yourself or giving them as gifts – Susan’s Handbag Doorstoppers will always be not only a doorstopper but a show stopper as well! Thank you Melann’s – as always you have come up with a winning idea.
